GE HealthCare interview questions - a complete guide
GE HealthCare makes medical devices (CT, MRI, ultrasound, patient monitors). Reports mention a project presentation along with the technical round.
About GE HealthCare
GE HealthCare makes medical imaging, ultrasound, patient monitoring and their software and AI. It has a large R&D centre in Bengaluru (the John F. Welch Technology Centre) working on hardware, software and AI.
This guide covers 13 GE HealthCare interview questions with answers - what each question checks and how to answer it - plus the GE HealthCare interview process, round by round, a 7-day preparation plan for freshers, tips and the mistakes to avoid.
GE HealthCare hiring process
Technical interview
Depending on the role - controls (PID, Kalman filter), signals, imaging or software.
Project presentation
Reports mention presenting your own project to a panel.
Behavioural / HR
Teamwork and motivation.
GE HealthCare does not publish its India fresher interview process in detail (as of our check). This is based on candidate reports - many of them for experienced roles, so the fresher process can differ. Confirm with the recruiter.

GE HealthCare interview questions and answers
Signals and controls
1.What is the basic idea of a Kalman filter?
- What they're checking
- Reported in interviews.
- How to answer
- Combine two things: the model's estimate (what the next state should be) and the sensor's (noisy) measurement. Whichever is more trusted (less uncertain) gets more weight - the estimate and uncertainty are updated at each step.
2.What does the Nyquist sampling theorem say?
- What they're checking
- The base of signals.
- How to answer
- Sample at least twice the signal's highest frequency, or there is aliasing - a high frequency looks like a low one. Hence an anti-aliasing filter before sampling.
3.What does the FFT do and where is it useful?
- What they're checking
- Signal processing.
- How to answer
- It turns a signal from time into frequency - which frequencies are present and how strongly. Used to identify noise, for filtering, and in building MRI images.
4.In PID tuning, what would you change if overshoot is too high?
- What they're checking
- Practical controls.
- How to answer
- Reduce Kp a little, increase Kd (damping), and reduce Ki if there is integral wind-up. Change one at a time and look at the step response.
5.How would you get the heart rate from an ECG signal?
- What they're checking
- A medical signal problem.
- How to answer
- Filter the noise (bandpass), find the R-peaks (the highest spikes, with a threshold + minimum spacing), the average time between two peaks = the RR interval; heart rate = 60 / RR (seconds).
Imaging and software
6.How would you write the code for a 3x3 blur (average filter) on an image?
- What they're checking
- Image processing coding.
- How to answer
- For each pixel, write the average of its 3x3 neighbours into a new image (don't change the original). For edge pixels, padding or only the valid neighbours.
7.What are the ways to reduce noise in CT/MRI images?
- What they're checking
- The imaging domain.
- How to answer
- Gaussian/median filters, edge-preserving filters (bilateral), and nowadays AI-based denoising. The trade-off: too much smoothing can lose important detail.
8.What is DICOM?
- What they're checking
- The medical imaging standard.
- How to answer
- The standard format and protocol for medical images - with information such as the patient and scan settings, and a way to send them between machines/hospital systems.
9.How does regulation change testing in medical device software?
- What they're checking
- The healthcare domain.
- How to answer
- Traceability for every requirement, risk analysis, documented tests and validation - for regulators such as the FDA. Changes go through a controlled process too.
10.What would you check before using an AI model in a hospital?
- What they're checking
- Responsible AI.
- How to answer
- Accuracy on data from different hospitals/machines, bias across patient groups, validation with doctors, and what happens when it is wrong - with a human making the final decision.
Presentation and behavioural
11.How would you give a 10-15 minute presentation of your project?
- What they're checking
- Reports mention a project presentation.
- How to answer
- The problem, your approach, results (with graphs), your own role, what you learned - 8-10 slides. One main point per slide, and ready for questions.
12.When did you work with people from a different field (such as doctors or designers)?
- What they're checking
- Cross-functional teamwork.
- How to answer
- Trying to understand their language, explaining technical things simply, and the result.
13.Why GE HealthCare?
- What they're checking
- Motivation.
- How to answer
- The impact of technology on people's lives and health in healthcare - a personal or project-related reason.
7-day preparation plan for the GE HealthCare interview
- Day 1: Signals - sampling, FFT, filters.
- Day 2: Controls - PID tuning, the idea of the Kalman filter.
- Day 3: Image processing basics + one coding problem.
- Day 4: Medical device software and regulation.
- Day 5: Build the project presentation.
- Day 6: Presentation practice + Q&A.
- Day 7: A mock technical + behavioural.
Preparation tips
- Signals and controls basics - sampling, FFT, PID, Kalman.
- Practise the project presentation 2-3 times, with timing.
- Understand a few medical-domain words (DICOM, regulation).
- For an AI role, talk about bias and validation.
Mistakes to avoid
- Presenting the team's work as your own.
- Remembering Kalman/PID formulas without intuition.
- Taking safety and regulation lightly in the medical domain.
