About Infosys

Infosys is one of India's biggest IT services and consulting companies, based in Bengaluru. Freshers usually join at levels such as Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer, and go through training after joining.

This guide covers 13 Infosys interview questions with answers - what each question checks and how to answer it - plus the Infosys interview process, round by round, a 7-day preparation plan for freshers, tips and the mistakes to avoid.

Infosys hiring process

  1. Roles commonly seen

Usually three levels for freshers: Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer - the higher the level, the harder the coding questions.

  2. Step 1: Online test

Usually sections such as reasoning, quantitative/technical ability, verbal ability and pseudocode. The coding round matters more for higher roles.

  3. Step 2: Interview

Technical and HR - sometimes together, sometimes separate. Your project, the basics (OOP, DBMS, OS) and a little coding.

  4. HackWithInfy

Infosys's coding contest, which can open the way to interviews for higher roles for those who do well. Details change every year.

Infosys interview questions and answers

Technical round

  1. 1.What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?

    What they're checking
A deeper understanding of OOP - very common at Infosys.
    How to answer
An abstract class can have implemented methods and fields; an interface is a contract a class follows. In Java a class can implement many interfaces but extend only one class.
  2. 2.What is polymorphism? Explain overloading and overriding.

    What they're checking
    OOP basics.
    How to answer
One name, many forms. Overloading = same method name, different parameters (compile time). Overriding = a child class rewrites a parent's method in its own way (runtime).
  3. 3.What is the difference between a primary key and a unique key?

    What they're checking
    DBMS basics.
    How to answer
A primary key uniquely identifies each row, can't be NULL, and a table has only one. A unique key also prevents duplicates, but can hold NULL, and a table can have several.
  4. 4.Explain SQL joins - inner, left and right.

    What they're checking
    Practical SQL.
    How to answer
Use two tables (students and marks). Inner join = rows that match in both; left join = all rows of the left table; right join = all rows of the right table.
  5. 5.Predict the output of this pseudocode.

    What they're checking
Pseudocode comes up a lot in the Infosys test and interview - can you read logic?
    How to answer
Track each variable's value on paper after every line. Write out every loop iteration - don't guess.
  6. 6.Reverse a string without a built-in function.

    What they're checking
    Basic coding.
    How to answer
Two pointers - one at the start, one at the end - swapping characters until they meet in the middle. Say the complexity is O(n).
  7. 7.How does binary search work? What is its time complexity?

    What they're checking
Algorithm basics - important for higher roles.
    How to answer
In a sorted array, look at the middle element and discard half. O(log n). Explain why the array must be sorted.
  8. 8.What is dynamic programming? Give an example.

    What they're checking
The problem-solving level for roles like Specialist Programmer.
    How to answer
Breaking a big problem into smaller overlapping problems and saving their answers. Use Fibonacci or climbing stairs as the example.

HR round

  1. 9.Why Infosys?

    What they're checking
    Research and seriousness.
    How to answer
Infosys's training and learning culture, or its work in a domain - whatever you have read - linked to your goal.
  2. 10.What if you were given a technology you have never studied?

    What they're checking
    Willingness to learn.
    How to answer
Stay positive: say how you learn fast - docs, online courses, asking seniors - and give an example of when you learned something new quickly.
  3. 11.Give an example of teamwork.

    What they're checking
Habit of working in a team.
    How to answer
A college project or hackathon: your role, the challenge, and how the team solved it.
  4. 12.Can you relocate?

    What they're checking
    Practical fit for postings.
    How to answer
Answer honestly. If yes, say so clearly; if there is a genuine reason, explain it politely.
  5. 13.Introduce yourself - present, past and future.

    What they're checking
    Clear communication.
    How to answer
Present, past, future: what you are doing now, one achievement, and why this job.

7-day preparation plan for the Infosys interview

  1. Day 1: Reasoning and puzzles.
  2. Day 2: Pseudocode and output prediction - 20 questions.

  7. Day 7: A mock test, and re-read the official notice.

Preparation tips
