Texas Instruments interview questions - a complete guide
According to reports, in TI's online test you choose your profile (analog, digital or others) and get technical questions for it. Here is preparation for both analog and digital.
About Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments makes analog and embedded chips - power management, amplifiers, data converters and microcontrollers used in cars, factories and gadgets. TI's long-established, large design centre is in Bengaluru, and hiring of ECE/EEE freshers is commonly reported.
This guide covers 13 Texas Instruments interview questions with answers - what each question checks and how to answer it - plus the Texas Instruments interview process, round by round, a 7-day preparation plan for freshers, tips and the mistakes to avoid.
Texas Instruments hiring process
Online test
Aptitude and technical sections by profile - reports say you choose from profiles such as analog or digital.
Technical interviews (1-3)
Core electronics - BJTs, MOSFETs and op-amps in analog; counters, muxes, timing and synchronizers in digital.
HR
Reports say it also checks whether you will stay for the long term.
Texas Instruments does not publish its India fresher interview process in detail (as of our check). This is based on candidate reports - many of them for experienced roles, so the fresher process can differ. Confirm with the recruiter.

Texas Instruments interview questions and answers
Analog
1.What are the characteristics of an ideal op-amp?
- What they're checking
- The first analog question.
- How to answer
- Infinite gain, infinite input impedance (zero input current), zero output impedance, infinite bandwidth and zero offset. Then say where a real op-amp differs.
2.How do you find the gain of an inverting amplifier?
- What they're checking
- Understanding the virtual ground.
- How to answer
- With negative feedback both inputs are nearly equal - the inverting input is a 'virtual ground'. Input current = Vin/Rin, the same flows through Rf, so Vout = -(Rf/Rin) x Vin.
3.What are a BJT's three operating regions - which one for an amplifier and which for a switch?
- What they're checking
- Device basics.
- How to answer
- Cutoff (off), active (amplifier), saturation (fully on). A switch moves between cutoff and saturation; an amplifier works in the active region.
4.When is a MOSFET in the saturation region?
- What they're checking
- MOSFET basics.
- How to answer
- NMOS: Vgs > Vth and Vds >= Vgs - Vth. Then the current hardly depends on Vds - the region used for amplifiers.
5.What is the cutoff frequency of an RC low-pass filter?
- What they're checking
- Filters.
- How to answer
- fc = 1/(2πRC). At this frequency the output is about 70.7% of the input (-3 dB); higher frequencies keep falling.
6.What benefits does negative feedback give an amplifier?
- What they're checking
- Design thinking.
- How to answer
- Stable gain (less dependent on components), wider bandwidth, less distortion - in exchange for somewhat lower gain.
Digital and embedded
7.How would you build NOT, AND and OR gates from a 2:1 mux?
- What they're checking
- The universality of a mux.
- How to answer
- AND: select = A, input0 = 0, input1 = B. OR: select = A, input0 = B, input1 = 1. NOT: select = A, input0 = 1, input1 = 0.
8.Why use a 2 flip-flop synchronizer to pass a signal between clock domains?
- What they're checking
- Metastability - reported in interviews.
- How to answer
- Relative to the other clock, the signal can violate setup/hold and the flip-flop can go metastable. The second flip-flop gives it a full cycle to settle. For multi-bit data, a FIFO or handshake.
9.How would you design a mod-6 counter?
- What they're checking
- Counters.
- How to answer
- 3 flip-flops (0 to 5). Reset as soon as the count reaches 6 (110) - an asynchronous reset can glitch, so a synchronous design is better.
10.A 12-bit ADC with a 3.3 V reference - how many volts is one step (LSB)?
- What they're checking
- Data converters - a big TI business.
- How to answer
- 3.3 / 4096 = about 0.8 mV. The ADC can't catch any change smaller than that.
11.What is the difference between a Moore and a Mealy machine?
- What they're checking
- FSM basics.
- How to answer
- In Moore the output depends only on the state; in Mealy on the state and the input. Mealy often needs fewer states and responds sooner, but an input glitch can reach the output.
HR
12.Are you planning to leave soon for higher studies?
- What they're checking
- Reports say it checks whether you will stay.
- How to answer
- Honestly, but clearly - your plan to learn and build a career at TI. Don't lie, but show your commitment.
13.Why Texas Instruments?
- What they're checking
- Motivation.
- How to answer
- Your interest in analog/embedded - a lab, a project or a TI chip/board you have used (such as a LaunchPad).
7-day preparation plan for the Texas Instruments interview
- Day 1: Op-amps - ideal, inverting/non-inverting, feedback.
- Day 2: BJTs and MOSFETs - regions and biasing.
- Day 3: Filters and basic signals.
- Day 4: Digital - muxes, counters, FSMs.
- Day 5: Timing and clock domain crossing.
- Day 6: ADC/DAC and microcontroller basics + aptitude.
- Day 7: A mock technical + HR.
Preparation tips
- Choose your strong profile in the online test - analog or digital.
- Analog: op-amps, BJTs, MOSFETs and filters - intuition with the formulas.
- Digital: counters, FSMs, timing, metastability.
- Remember the circuit-level details of your core project.
Mistakes to avoid
- Remembering formulas without understanding what they mean.
- Choosing a profile you have prepared less for.
- A vague answer about commitment in HR.
