Deloitte hiring process

  1. Step 1: Online assessment

Aptitude, English and basic technical topics.

  2. Step 2: Versant / GD (depends on the drive)

Some drives have a spoken English (Versant) test, others a group discussion on a case article.

  3. Step 3: Interview

Technical and HR - sometimes in one round.

Deloitte does not officially publish its fresher test pattern (as of our check). This process is based on commonly reported information and can change from drive to drive - read your drive's official notice.

Deloitte interview questions and answers

GD and consulting thinking

  1. 1.A GD on a case article - how do you start?

    What they're checking
Understanding quickly from reading, and speaking with structure.
    How to answer
State the article's main issue in one line, then give 2-3 angles (customer, cost, risk). Move forward by building on what others said.
  2. 2.Guesstimate: how many cups of tea are sold in Mumbai every day?

    What they're checking
Structured thinking - the method matters, not the exact number.
    How to answer
Take the population, estimate how many people drink tea and how many cups each - say every step out loud and keep the assumptions clear.
  3. 3.Explain a technical thing (like cloud) to a non-technical client.

    What they're checking
The most important skill in consulting.
    How to answer
Use an everyday comparison: cloud = electricity - no generator of your own, you pay for what you use.
  4. 4.What does a pivot table do in Excel?

    What they're checking
    Basics for analytics roles.
    How to answer
It summarises large data quickly - like total sales by region, with drag and drop.

Technical and HR

  1. 5.What is data analytics? Give an example.

    What they're checking
    Industry awareness.
    How to answer
Making decisions from data - like finding which product sells more in which month, so stock is filled in advance.
  2. 6.Why consulting / why Deloitte?

    What they're checking
    Motivation.
    How to answer
Solving problems across industries, working with clients - whatever you genuinely like, linked to your goal.
  3. 7.Tell me about a time you convinced someone of your point.

    What they're checking
    Influence and communication.
    How to answer
The situation, how you presented data/logic, and the result - in STAR.

More consulting questions

  1. 8.A client's profit is falling - how would you think about it?

    What they're checking
    A basic case framework.
    How to answer
Profit = revenue - cost. In revenue, is it price or volume? In cost, fixed or variable? Check each branch with data.
  2. 9.What is the structure of a market sizing?

    What they're checking
    The foundation of guesstimates.
    How to answer
Top-down (from the population downwards) or bottom-up (from one unit upwards). State the assumption at each step and do a sanity check at the end.
  3. 10.What are Power BI and Tableau?

    What they're checking
    Awareness of analytics tools.
    How to answer
Tools that build charts and dashboards from data, so business people can understand it quickly.
  4. 11.How did you work with a difficult teammate?

    What they're checking
    Teamwork.
    How to answer
The situation, how you talked, what compromise was made, and the result - in STAR, without blame.

One more question

  1. 12.In a client meeting you're asked something you don't know. What do you do?

    What they're checking
    Professionalism.
    How to answer
Don't guess - say 'I'll confirm and get back to you by this evening', note it down, and answer on time.

7-day preparation plan for the Deloitte interview

  1. Day 1: Aptitude and English.
  2. Day 2: Business news - the main point of three articles in one line each.
  3. Day 3: Guesstimates - three, out loud.
  4. Day 4: Case GD - speak on one case for five minutes.
  5. Day 5: Technical basics (for your role) and Excel.
  6. Day 6: Versant practice and HR stories.
  7. Day 7: A mock interview.

Preparation tips

  • In guesstimates, structure matters more than the right answer - state every assumption.
  • Read a business news article every day and practise stating its main point in one line.
  • For Versant, practise speaking clearly and slowly.
  • Check eligibility (marks, backlogs) in your drive's notice.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Giving a number in a guesstimate without a structure.
  • Only repeating facts in a case GD without offering a solution.
  • A generic answer to 'why consulting'.
