Digital marketing interview questions

Digital marketing interview questions and answers

Digital marketing interviews check your channel knowledge and, more importantly, whether you think in numbers. These are the questions asked most, with what each one checks.

What to revise before the interview

  • SEO: on-page, technical, off-page, keyword research
  • Google Ads: search campaigns, quality score, bidding
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads and audiences
  • Social media content and organic growth
  • Email marketing and automation
  • Google Analytics 4 and conversion tracking
  • Funnels: awareness, consideration, conversion
  • Metrics: CTR, CPC, CPA, CAC, ROAS, LTV
  1. 1.What are on-page, off-page and technical SEO?

    What they're checking
    SEO foundations.
    How to answer
On-page: content, titles, headings, internal links. Off-page: backlinks and mentions. Technical: crawlability, speed, mobile-friendliness, sitemaps and structured data.
  2. 2.How does Google decide where an ad appears?

    What they're checking
    Paid search knowledge.
    How to answer
Through an auction using your bid and ad quality - expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Better quality can win a higher position at a lower cost.
  3. 3.What is the difference between CAC and ROAS?

    What they're checking
    Thinking in business metrics.
    How to answer
Customer acquisition cost is total spend divided by new customers; return on ad spend is revenue divided by ad spend. Compare CAC with customer lifetime value to judge profitability.
  4. 4.How would you plan a campaign for a product launch with a small budget?

    What they're checking
    Planning and prioritisation.
    How to answer
Define the goal and audience, pick one or two channels where that audience is, set a budget split and a test period, prepare creatives and tracking, then shift budget to what converts.
    Example answer
“For a new budget skincare brand, I'd target women aged 20-30 on Instagram with Reels ads and creator collaborations, spend 70% on two ad sets and 30% testing new creatives for two weeks, track purchases through the pixel, and move budget to the lowest cost per purchase.”
  5. 5.Your ad's CTR is good but conversions are low. What do you check?

    What they're checking
    Funnel debugging.
    How to answer
The landing page: does it match the ad's promise, load fast on mobile, have a clear call to action? Then check tracking, the offer and the checkout flow.
  6. 6.How do you do keyword research?

    What they're checking
    SEO and paid search practice.
    How to answer
Start from customer problems, use tools (Google Keyword Planner, Search Console, Ahrefs or Semrush), check search intent and competition, and group keywords by topic for pages.
  7. 7.How do you grow an Instagram account organically?

    What they're checking
    Social media skill.
    How to answer
Consistent Reels with strong first-second hooks, content pillars, posting when the audience is active, replying to comments and DMs, and collaborations - measured by reach and saves, not only likes.
  8. 8.What would you track in Google Analytics?

    What they're checking
    Measurement.
    How to answer
Traffic by source, engagement, key events (sign-ups, purchases) as conversions, funnels, and campaign UTM tags so you know which channel works.
  9. 9.What makes a good marketing email?

    What they're checking
    Email channel basics.
    How to answer
A clear subject line, one main message and call to action, personalisation, mobile-friendly design, and testing subject lines - plus a clean, consented list.
  10. 10.Tell me about a campaign you ran.

    What they're checking
    Real experience with numbers.
    How to answer
Goal, audience, channel, budget, what you tested and the results (CTR, conversions, cost). Freshers can use a personal page, college event or internship.
