Self Introduction in Hindi and English for Interviews (with Examples)

How to introduce yourself in an interview in English, Hindi or Hinglish: a simple three-part structure, ready examples for freshers and experienced candidates, and what to leave out.

In short

Introduce yourself in about a minute using three parts: what you do now, one or two achievements that brought you here, and why this job is your next step. Answer in the language the interviewer uses - English by default, Hindi or Hinglish if they switch - and leave out family details and your full resume.

"Tell me about yourself" - or "apne baare mein batao" - opens almost every interview in India. In many rounds, especially at service companies, banks and BPOs, the interviewer may switch to Hindi to put you at ease or to check how you communicate.

The good news: the same structure works in both languages. Prepare it once, then practise saying it both ways.

The structure: present, past, future

  • Present: who you are now - your degree and college, or your current role.
  • Past: one or two things you did, ideally with a number: a project, an internship, a result.
  • Future: why this role is the logical next step for you.

Keep it to about a minute. The interviewer will ask follow-up questions on whatever interests them.

Fresher example in English

"Good morning. I'm Priya, a final-year B.Tech student in computer science from a college in Jaipur. For my final-year project, I built a library management app in Java with two classmates - I designed the database and wrote the search feature. I also did a two-month internship at a local software company, where I tested and fixed bugs in their web app. I enjoy solving practical problems, and I'd like to start my career in a role like this one, where I can learn from a strong engineering team."

Fresher example in Hinglish

"Good morning sir. Mera naam Priya hai, main Jaipur ke ek college se computer science mein final year B.Tech kar rahi hoon. Final year project mein maine do classmates ke saath Java mein ek library management app banaya - database design aur search feature maine banaya tha. Maine ek local software company mein do mahine ki internship bhi ki, jahan maine unke web app ki testing aur bug fixing ki. Mujhe practical problems solve karna achha lagta hai, isliye main apna career aise role se shuru karna chahti hoon jahan ek strong team se seekh sakoon."

Experienced example in English

"I'm Rahul, and I've been a customer support team lead at an e-commerce company in Gurugram for three years. I manage a team of twelve, and last year we brought our average response time down from six hours to under two by reorganising shifts and building a reply library. Before that I worked as a support executive for two years. I'm now looking for an operations role where I can improve processes at a larger scale, which is why this position interested me."

Experienced example in Hinglish

"Main Rahul hoon, pichhle teen saal se Gurugram mein ek e-commerce company mein customer support team lead hoon. Meri team mein baarah log hain, aur pichhle saal humne shifts reorganise karke aur ek reply library bana kar average response time chhe ghante se do ghante se kam kar diya. Usse pehle maine do saal support executive ke roop mein kaam kiya. Ab main ek operations role dhoondh raha hoon jahan bade level par process improve kar sakoon - isliye ye position mujhe achhi lagi."

What to leave out

  • Family details ("my father is...", "we are four members") - common in school speeches, out of place in interviews.
  • Your full resume, line by line - they already have it.
  • Hobbies, unless they connect to the job.
  • Memorised lines in difficult English. Simple, clear sentences in either language are better than impressive words you might stumble on.

Which language should you answer in?

Start in English for most corporate interviews. If the interviewer switches to Hindi, it is fine to follow them - but keep technical terms in English, as most Indian interviewers do. What they are checking is that you can explain yourself clearly, not which language you choose.

If switching between the two under pressure is hard, Cuelyte AI understands questions asked in English, Hindi or Hinglish and can draft your answer in either language from your resume - useful for practice before the day.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a self introduction be in an interview?

About one minute - roughly 120 to 150 words. Long enough for your present role, one or two achievements and why you want the job; short enough to leave room for questions.

Can I give my self introduction in Hindi?

If the interviewer speaks to you in Hindi, or the role is Hindi-speaking, yes. For most corporate roles, start in English and switch only if they do. Keep technical words in English either way.

What should a fresher say in a self introduction?

Your degree and college, your strongest project or internship and what you personally did in it, and why you want this role. A project explained well is enough - you don't need work experience.
